DockIt is a Chrome extension for viewing and working with documents directly in your browser.

DockIt is designed with a local-first architecture: documents you open with DockIt are processed and rendered on your device. DockIt does not upload your documents to a server, does not inspect your browsing activity, and does not use document contents for analytics, advertising, or profiling.

This Privacy Policy explains what information DockIt handles, how that information is used, and when information may leave your device.

Summary

In simple terms:

Your documents stay on your device.

DockIt does not upload your documents, does not collect their contents, does not track the websites you visit, and does not use analytics or advertising trackers.

The only information DockIt sends outside your device is information you voluntarily submit through the optional feedback form, available both in the DockIt Chrome extension and on this website. That submission may contain your rating, feedback message, and email address if you provide one.

1. Information DockIt Does Not Collect

DockIt does not collect, upload, or transmit the contents of documents that you open or view.

This includes, without limitation:

• Document text
• Images contained in documents
• PDF contents
• Document metadata contained within the file
• Annotations or other document content
• Files stored on your computer
• The contents of websites you visit
• Your browsing history
• URLs of websites you visit
• Search history
• Passwords, credentials, or authentication information

Document processing and rendering are performed locally on your device.

DockIt does not operate a server that receives or stores the documents you open.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

DockIt may use Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) to provide features such as a recent-documents list and to preserve your viewing experience.

Depending on the features you use, DockIt may store locally:

• Document file name
• File size
• File type
• Last-viewed position or page
• Extension preferences and settings

This information is stored locally by Chrome on your device and is not transmitted to DockIt or to a DockIt server.

DockIt does not store document contents in its extension storage.

Feedback information

If you use DockIt's optional feedback form, DockIt may locally remember the email address you entered so that you do not have to enter it again the next time you provide feedback.

Your feedback email address is stored locally in Chrome's extension storage and is not transmitted unless you submit the feedback form.

3. Optional Feedback Form

DockIt provides an optional feedback form — in the Chrome extension and on this website — so users can report issues, provide suggestions, or rate their experience. Both versions submit in the same way, described below; the website version does not remember your email address locally, unlike the extension (see Section 2).

If you choose to submit the form, the following information may be transmitted:

• Your rating, if provided
• Your feedback message
• Your email address, if provided

The information is sent to the developer through FormSubmit, a third-party form-delivery service.

Feedback submission does not include:

• Document contents
• Document text
• Files
• Document file contents
• Browsing history
• Browser history
• Website contents
• URLs of websites you visit
• Document names, unless you explicitly include one in your feedback message

You do not need to submit feedback in order to use DockIt.

FormSubmit's handling of submitted form data is governed by its own privacy practices. You can review its privacy policy here: https://formsubmit.co/privacy

4. How DockIt Uses Information

DockIt uses locally stored information only to provide and improve features of the extension, such as:

• Remembering recently opened documents
• Restoring your last viewing position
• Remembering extension preferences
• Remembering an email address entered into the optional feedback form

Information submitted through the feedback form is used by the developer to:

• Understand user feedback
• Identify bugs or usability issues
• Respond to users who provide an email address
• Improve DockIt

DockIt does not use user information for behavioral advertising, profiling, or targeted advertising.

5. Information Sharing

DockIt does not sell, rent, or otherwise monetize user data.

DockIt does not share document contents or browsing information with third parties.

The only third-party service currently involved in DockIt's data transmission is FormSubmit, and only when a user voluntarily submits the feedback form.

When feedback is submitted, the information described in Section 3 is transmitted to FormSubmit for delivery to the developer.

DockIt does not transmit document contents, document files, or browsing activity to FormSubmit.

6. Document Processing

DockIt's primary functionality is performed locally in your browser.

When you open a document using DockIt:

1. The document is accessed by the extension through Chrome's extension mechanisms.
2. The document is processed and rendered on your device.
3. DockIt does not upload the document to a DockIt server.
4. DockIt does not send the document contents to a remote processing service.
5. When you close the document or otherwise stop using it, DockIt does not retain a server-side copy because no server-side copy was created.

Any temporary data required while rendering a document exists locally as part of the browser and extension's operation.

When you use "Open in DockIt" or "Dock this page" to capture a document directly from a website, that request is made using the active session (including cookies) for the page you're on, the same way the page's own scripts would. This lets DockIt correctly capture resources that require you to be logged in, such as an email attachment. This session information is used only to fetch the resource on your device and is not transmitted to DockIt or to any DockIt server.

7. Chrome Permissions

DockIt requests only the permissions necessary to provide its document-viewing functionality. Specifically:

• sidePanel — renders DockIt's viewer in Chrome's side panel.
• storage — local-only storage for the recent-documents list and the remembered feedback email described in Section 2.
• contextMenus — adds the "Open in DockIt" / "Dock this page" right-click menu items.
• activeTab — lets a right-click or keyboard-shortcut action briefly read the document open in the current tab, only when you invoke it, not on every page you visit.
• scripting — runs the one-time, user-triggered capture used by the action above.
• downloads — detects when a document finishes downloading, so DockIt can offer to open it.

DockIt does not request broad permissions such as:

• Access to all websites
• The tabs permission
• Permission to read or modify arbitrary website content
• Access to browsing history
• Access to cookies
• Access to personal communications

Chrome controls the permissions available to extensions, and users can review and manage extension permissions through Chrome's extension settings.

8. Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking

DockIt does not:

• Use cookies
• Use Google Analytics
• Use advertising trackers
• Use third-party analytics SDKs
• Track users across websites
• Build advertising profiles
• Collect browsing activity for analytics
• Track individual documents that users open

DockIt does not use telemetry to monitor which documents users view or which websites they visit.

9. Advertising

DockIt does not display advertisements and does not use document or browsing information for advertising purposes.

DockIt does not sell user data to advertisers or advertising networks.

10. Data Security

Because DockIt processes documents locally, the primary document data remains on the user's device rather than being transmitted to DockIt servers.

For information that is voluntarily transmitted through the feedback form, DockIt relies on the security measures provided by the third-party form-delivery service.

No method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should maintain appropriate security controls on their own devices and browsers.

11. Data Retention and Deletion

DockIt does not maintain server-side copies of documents opened with the extension.

Information stored locally by DockIt remains on your device until it is removed by the extension, cleared by the user, or otherwise removed by Chrome.

You can remove DockIt's locally stored data by removing the extension or using Chrome's extension/site data management controls, where applicable.

Feedback submitted through the feedback form may be retained by the developer for as long as reasonably necessary to review, respond to, and manage the feedback.

If you submit feedback containing an email address and would like the developer to delete the associated feedback information, you may contact the developer using the address below.

12. Children's Privacy

DockIt is a general-purpose document viewing extension and is not specifically directed toward children.

DockIt does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the extension.

13. Third-Party Services

DockIt currently uses the following third-party services for limited purposes:

FormSubmit
Purpose: Delivery of voluntarily submitted feedback forms.

FormSubmit receives information only when a user submits the optional feedback form. Its processing of submitted information is subject to its own privacy policy.

FormSubmit Privacy Policy: https://formsubmit.co/privacy

Cloudflare Turnstile
Purpose: Spam prevention on the website's feedback form.

When the feedback form is submitted on this website, Cloudflare Turnstile checks whether the submission came from a real browser rather than an automated script, using a verification token and your IP address. This check runs only when the website's feedback form is submitted; it is not used elsewhere on the site and is not used for advertising or tracking.

DockIt does not use third-party services for document processing, document storage, analytics, advertising, or behavioral tracking.

14. Chrome Web Store

DockIt is distributed through the Chrome Web Store.

Google may collect and process information in connection with the Chrome Web Store and the operation of Chrome itself. Such processing is governed by Google's applicable privacy policies and is separate from DockIt's handling of user data.

DockIt does not receive users' Chrome browsing history or Chrome Web Store account information merely because the extension is installed.

15. Disclaimer of Warranty and Limitation of Liability

DockIt is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the extension will operate uninterrupted, error-free, or that rendered documents will always display accurately.

You are solely responsible for the files you open, dock, or capture using DockIt, and for ensuring you are authorized to access, view, and process that content. DockIt is a local document-viewing tool; the developer does not review, control, or take responsibility for the content of any file you choose to open with it.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developer of DockIt shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, DockIt — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

This Privacy Policy, and your use of DockIt, is governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when DockIt's functionality, data practices, or applicable requirements change.

If we make material changes to how DockIt collects, uses, or shares user data, we will update this Privacy Policy and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the extension or its Chrome Web Store listing.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised.
